Fight Against Mining – 1980-1995
 

The history of Adjuntas’ Art and Culture Workshop, today known as Casa Pueblo, starts in 1980.  The main objective Its objective: was to stop the government’s intent to start mining in open-air in the municipalities of Adjuntas, Utuado, Lares and Jayuya.  This The mining would have caused an ecological catastrophe and as well as the deterioration of national patrimony.  After 15 years of fighting, the community of Puerto Rico claimeds victory when the government eliminateds mining in 1995.  The rescue of 29,600 acres of land, bodies of water, resources and the communitarian weaveheritage and fabric of the community formed over by centuries represents the first transcendental step of Casa Pueblo towards sustainable development.
