In 2002, Casa Pueblo wrote and presented a bill of law for the development and conservation of the Green Infrastructure for Puerto Rico.  After an intense communitarian community-based campaign, the law was approved by Legislature in September 2003.

Law 268 had an initial allocation of $20 million with subsequent allotments of around $5 million annually for the protection of sensitive areas in the country Law 268 assigns $20 million dollars initially and a recurring entry of $5 million dollars annually from the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources. The goal of this community strategy is to double the percentage of protected areas in Puerto Rico from 5% to 10%.  The law promotes acquiring lands with high ecological value to increase the island’s protected areas from a 5% to a 10%.
